Week thirty four of Operation Graphite – Theme: Nightmare.

Nightmares, or just dreams in general, are such strange experiences. Many times that I have woken in terror, I later couldn’t recall any details of what freaked me out so much. The times when I could remember a detail, it didn’t sound like anything one could be so disturbed by. It is not only the visuals and the ideas, but sometimes that raw emotion and undefinable feelings that can give nightmares their power. Since Childhood I have had reoccurring night terrors. To this day I couldn’t tell you what I was dreaming about, but every once and a while an undefinable emotion will return, and I will be engulfed within a familiar dread.

The theme selected for week thirty five of Operation Graphite will be: The Legend of Zelda.

The Kingdom of Hyrule has long suffered under the rule of the dark wizard Gannon. Only Princes Zelda, who holds the Triforce of Wisdom, and a young boy named Link, who holds the Triforce of Courage, can stop the Evil Gannon and his Triforce of Power from crushing the known world under his iron rule. This week we celebrate one of the most influential video game series of all time. Time to put down your controller, and pick up your art supplies as we journey to Hyrule.

Any drawing or painting, using traditional or digital media, that is inspired by The Legend of Zelda series is far game.

All art work is due on Thursday 10.4.12. Submissions will be published the following Friday 10.5.12.

And for the record. Link will always be a Lefty.

Week thirty three of Operation Graphite – Theme: Animal Hybrid.

Let’s welcome a new member to the Corps, as we ride our hybrid animal abominations into battle. What might someday become reality thanks to genetic engineering, will for now only remain possible though art and special effects. Science is already frighteningly close to creating such creatures. There already are genetically engineered goats with spider DNA, whose milk contains spider silk protein that can be spun into silk. Sadly these goats look just like regular goats and don’t have eight eyes and eight legs. Kinda makes me wish I would had drawn that… maybe glad I didn’t, I might have nightmares for weeks from that mental image. Hey, next week’s theme Nightmare!

The theme selected for week thirty four of Operation Graphite will be: Nightmare.

What vision has snapped you out of a deep sleep, and terrified you to the core? What have you dreamt about that disturbed you for days? Have you ever woke feeling the weight of an Incubus or Succubus sitting on your chest. Are there reoccurring dreams that have haunted you for years? This week we delve into the darker side of the subconscious. They may ideas or imagery from actual dreams, night terrors or nightmares, or something so horrific it could inspire nightmares.

Please submit a drawing or painting, using traditional or digital media of your Nightmare.

All art work is due on Thursday 9.27.12. Submissions will be published the following Friday 9.28.12.

It’s only a dream… its only a dream…

Week thirty two of Operation Graphite – theme: Bicycle.

The bicycle, mode of transportation, great way to exercise. And after the apocalypse, when the Great Humongous controls all the juice, we will still be able to petal ourselves around.

Week thirty two cyclists.

bruku – Trine Death Dealer

Shock – Bad idea from childhood #167

Thank you for riding.

The theme selected for week thirty three of Operation Graphite will be: Animal Hybrid.

A thing of immortal make, not human, lion-fronted and snake behind, a goat in the middle, and snorting out the breath of the terrible flame of bright fire. Daughter of Typon and Echidna, Chimera ravaged Lycia until Bellerphon mounted the winged stallion Pegasus and attacked her from above.

Hybrid animals are plentiful in various ancient mythologies, from the Egyptian Ammit and Gryphon, to the Greek Hippocamp and the Chinese Qilin. Even the modern day taxidermic parody, the Jackalope, is an example of an animal hybrid. This week we can either create our own hybrid animal, or delve in to the rich mythological catalog for inspiration. The creature may be cute or monstrous, but it must be all animal, no human DNA allowed.

Please submit a drawing or painting, using traditional or digital media of a Hybrid Animal

All art work is due on Thursday 9.20.12. Submissions will be published the following Friday 9.21.12.

Week thirty one of Operation Graphite – Theme: D&D Character.

Now that we all have our characters created, it is time to start the quest.

You’re sitting in a tavern called, The Lusty Wench. A group of barbarians are sitting across the room. As they continue to drink they seem to bathe more in ale than actually drink it. One of them sees you (or maybe two of your) and gives an inebriated nod. Later, a bar maiden, who looks too young to even be in a bar, walks by with more full tankards of mead than even an orc could carry. She warns you not to get involved with that rowdy bunch of barbarians, and that they are absolute morons. Instead she points out a rather sketchy looking guy sitting alone at the bar as one who might be looking to hire. Finally the bartender hands you and your party your drinks. The bartender chuckles, as dose the rest of the patrons at The Lusty Wench, as he hands you a giant fruity drink, complete with tiny umbrella. As you try to shrug off the humiliation of your drink choice, you notice a sign posted on the back wall. Adventures wanted to reclaim the legendary lost city of Marzipan, stated the posting.  You thought the lost city of Marzipan was just a bedtime story. I have proof of the cities existence, continued the post, visit Horatio Burlap at Burlap Apothecary to inquire. You recall this is the same crazy apothecary who thinks he is being stalked by invisible carnivorous squirrels. What would you like to do?

The theme selected for week thirty two of Operation Graphite will be: Bicycle.

This week’s theme doesn’t necessarily need to include topless French women, but it’s been my experience that topless French women make most things just a little bit better.  The theme is, Bicycle, and it can include anything from a Victorian Penny Farthing, to a Hipster Fixe bike. The work can be about the bike, the rider, or the destination; as long as the concept of cycling is incorporated in the piece.

Please submit a drawing or painting, using traditional or digital media of a Bicycle themed work of art.

All art work is due on Thursday 9.13.12. Submissions will be published the following Friday 9.14.12.
