The theme selected for week two-seventeen of Operation Graphite will be: Iron Man.

My son is obsessed with Iron Man. He’s hit that wonderful stage where he’s really into superheroes. I suppose my geek dad interests are wearing off on him. Most of what he knows is from the cute stylized kids toys. Then I showed him the least violent clips on youtube, which are usually the suiting up and flying shots. He has his favorites in both Marvel and DC, but Iron Man is his absolute favorite. He loves the suit, and who can blame him. The movie Iron Man suit is pretty bad ass. I’ve made one simple mask for him, and I’ve been working on a MkII made out of craft foam to replace the cardboard and marker MkI. Don’t think I have the time to pull of some of the more amazing DIY Iron Man projects I’ve seen online. I haven’t the heart to tell my boy (nor would he understand) that Tony Stark is kind of an arrogant, douchy asshole. Daddy’s team Cap.

Please submit any drawing or painting, using traditional or digital media, that fits the theme: Iron Man.

All art work is due 9 P.M. PST on Friday, 5.6.16. Submissions will be published the weekend of 5.7.16

Week two-fifteen of Operation Graphite – theme: Street Fighter.

Up until a few weeks ago, I didn’t even realize there was a new Street Fighter V. I might be a little behind. I still remember when Street Fighter II hit the arcades. The game was a revolution, and arcades never were the same after that. Not only did the player vs. player gameplay become hugely popular, but the characters were so memorable that they’ve become pop culture icons since then.

The theme selected for week two-sixteen of Operation Graphite will be: Doohickey.

For a number of years now work has been proceeding in order to bring to perfection the crudely conceived idea of a machine that would not only supply inverse reactive current for us in unilateral phase detractors, but would also be capable of automatically synchronizing cardinal grammeters.

The theme this week is any kind of doohickey, whatzit, or gadget, be it whimsical, practical or used for operating nofer trunnions whenever a barescent skor motion is required in conjunction with a drawn reciprocating dingle arm to reduce sinusoidal depleneration.

Please submit any drawing or painting, using traditional or digital media, that fits the theme: Doohickey.

All art work is due 9 P.M. PST on Friday, 4.29.16. Submissions will be published the weekend of 4.30.16

Week two-fourteen of Operation Graphite – theme: Whatever.

Shock - Officer

This was the second open theme week where I didn’t know what to draw next. Often when one thinks of an open theme, it may seem freeing. Not only did I not have my usual time to draw this week, I still really didn’t think of anything. And that is why there is a messy 1o minute doodle of, some guy.

I’ve been thinking a lot about classic arcade gaming recently. Since most of these themes tend to be character based and figural in nature, Street Fighter seemed like a good game with lots of fun characters to work with.

Please submit any drawing or painting, using traditional or digital media, that fits the theme: Street Fighter.

All art work is due 9 P.M. PST on Friday, 4.22.16. Submissions will be published the weekend of 4.23.16

Week two-thirteen of Operation Graphite – theme: Spawn.

Spawn is one of those books I was really into back in the 90’s, but one I have not kept up with since then. My weak contribution this week is no indication of my current interest in the character. It has just been one of those weeks, or months. It’s getting harder to focus on a theme that may have sounded good the previous week. Did you hear there is going to be a new Spawn movie? The idea sounds like it will be less the muscle bound demon monster slayer and more shadowy wraith of vengeance.

Another week and I don’t have an idea for a theme, but I bet you do. Draw whatever you want. Maybe I will think of a theme for next week, maybe I wont. At this point it depends on how many pop culture shrug images I can find.

Please submit any drawing or painting, using traditional or digital media, that fits the theme: Whatever.

Or send some good shrug jpegs. You know, whatever.

Week two-twelve of Operation Graphite – theme: The Fool.

And now we have passed the annual worst day on the internet. I’m glad we all survived. My favorite (or least favorite) was the rumor that despite poor critical reception of the new Batman V Superman, Zack Snyder would be directing one of the upcoming Star Wars films. My heart sunk into my chest, until I relaxed what day it was. Fuck you Internet.
