The theme selected for week one-eighty-eight of Operation Graphite will be: Justice League Dark.

justice-league-dark-news

I was recently called out for being too much of a Marvel devotee. I will admit, I often feel that universe is a bit more cohesive. I do believe that DC has some fantastic Characters, some who I am very fond of, and others I only wish I knew better. In keeping with the dark tones for the month, I thought Justice League Dark would make a good theme. Guillermo Del Toro was at one time attached to a film adaptation, but with many of his projects, it is up to the studio to green light a project and get if off the back burner. I don’t actually know much about the darker unit of the Justice League, but I am familiar with a few of the characters, and putting all the dark and supernatural heroes and anti heroes together sounds like a fun time. Zatana, Deadman, Madame Xanadu, Swamp Thing, Frankenstein’s  monster and John Constantine main members of this dark team, fighting the forces of darkness… darkly.

Week one-eighty-six of Operation Graphite – theme: The Flash.

Shock - The Flash

I always wondered why an enemy of The Flash was Reverse Flash, who was also just as fast. Wouldn’t Reverse Flash be really slow? I guess that wouldn’t make for a very exciting fight. There is a whole team of Flashes now, with older, and younger incarnations, along with Kid Flash and Impulse among the names . There is a whole Speed Squad defending Central City.

Shock – The Flash.

The theme selected for week one-eighty-seven of Operation Graphite will be: Demon.

In a few days, October, Shocktober, Inktober, Rocktober, or whatever tober you prefer will have arrived. Fall has fell, and the pumpkin spice is permeating every pore in my body as I prepare for another Halloween. To kick off the month of macabre, we embrace our demonic side. Demons sort of like monsters, but their physical appearance is more of a manifestation of their dark souls. We imagine demons as devils with their formless natutre allowing them to seise control of another person and possess and torment them. Really, it is all about blaming some invisible entity for mental illnesses that were not understood in previous centuries. However, drawing misdiagnosed mental ailments or formless creatures wouldn’t be as fun, so for the sake of this Grey Op, we will be pretty much drawing monsters… but demonic monsters.

Week one-eighty-five of Operation Graphite – theme: Jealousy.

Shock - Precious

If jealousy is that gripping, irrational fear that something could be lost or taken away from you, then what is the fear when those feelings are legitimate? Often, jealousy is thought of as a self manufactured paranoia, but there are certainly times when those feelings are true. I just know you tiny assholes are trying to take my magic ring and throw it into a Volcano, just fucking admit it!

With the new TV series on the CW, the DC television universe is continuing to grow. After the success of [the still green, but no longer explicitly green] Arrow, and its many DC super heroes guest staring, one of the classic DC characters got his own series. The Flash has been around for decades, various heroes have taken taken the roll of The Flash, Barry Allen being the most popular. For a superhero, he only has one power, he’s fast. At first that was just about running fast, or having quick reflexes, now everything from vibrating through solid objects and affecting in the space-time continum are possible due to his super speed. Next week, it’s all about the fastest man on Earth.

Week one-eighty-four of Operation Graphite – theme: Insomnia.

Shock - Cant sleep

Its one thing when you want to sleep, but aren’t allowed to, its another thing when you have a chance to rest, but can’t fall asleep to save your soul. When the two come together, then you’re really having a good time. There is a reason why sleep deprivation is used as a form of torture. No, I will not tell you which system the rebel base is located.

The theme selected for week one-eighty-five of Operation Graphite will be: Jealousy.

jealousy

Envy is when you want something someone else has, jealousy is what you feel when you think what you have my be taken, perhaps by the envious. Jealousy is typically associated with scorned lovers, affairs and cheating hearts, but jealousy can be felt anytime one perceives something being taken away. Right now I am feeling the full force of jealousy, and a tidal wave of emotion as our two year old’s self centered world has been shattered by the arrival of a new baby brother.

Week one-eighty-three of Operation Graphite – theme: Western.

Shock - Coachman

This week we visit the Old West, the age of gunslingers, train robbers and bandits. I’m not sure if that sounds like to happy of a place. A time of cowboys, cattle drives and the gold rush, sounds a little friendlier.

Lisa's_First_Word_82

There are plenty of reasons why one might not be able to get a good nights sleep. Really, when you think about it, I’m amazed anyone is able to fall asleep at night. Rising oceans, the impending robot uprising, carnivorous pack hunting squirrels, the economic recession, regular unemployment, the oligarchy, dust mites, that constant tapping on your window in the middle of the night, did I do my homework / did I prepare for tomorrow’s meeting? North Korea, the Satan worshipers next door, where red food coloring comes from, the slowly creeping realization that you will never accomplish anything and you will amount to nothing more than a bland mindless consumer… oh and this.

I have my own source of insomnia, or will have more of it. My wife is pregnant and our second son is due any… minute… now. This will, 1) throw the first child into a jealousy spiral, 2) keep everyone in the house up for the next few months.

We will see if I am still able to keep up with this whole drawing blog thing. Unbearable mediocrity, thats another thing that keeps me up at night.
