The theme selected for week eighteen of Operation Graphite will be, Self Portrait.

One of the great exercises for an artists is the self portrait. The model is always there, and ready whenever the artist is. Van Gogh and Rembrandt did constant self portraits, showing them as they aged through the years, with or without the bandages from self inflicted surgery. Any kind of Self portrait is fair game, as long as you are drawing yourself. It can be a standard portrait, caricature, or an image depicting yourself as some other character in some other setting. As long as you are drawing a physical representation of your self.

All art work is due on Thursday 6.7.12. Submissions will be published the following Friday 6.8.12.

Now go get a mirror.

Week sixteen of Operation Graphite – Theme: Hell.

This week we have some nice and disturbing concepts of Hell, as well as the more humorous.

This weeks contributors cursed to eternal damnation.

Micah – Hell

shawnbrookwilliams – Stuck with, “those damn kid’s,” obnoxious music for all Eternity.

Shock – Chewy Human

sweatywest – My personal Hell

Thank you all for contributing to a hedonistic sinful lifestyle.

The theme selected for week seventeen will be, Unconventional Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

Keeping in the spirit of death metal album cover artwork, this week’s theme will take our four regular horsemen, War, Famine, Pestilence, and Death, and put some unconventional figures at the reins of the Apocalypse.

Please submit a drawing or painting, using traditional or digital media of your Unconventional Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

All art work is due on Thursday 5.31.12. Submissions will be published the following Friday 6.1.12.

The End is Near.

Week Fifteen of Operation Gaphite – Theme: Fine Art Superhero

The funny thing this week, even though the theme was Superheroes in fine art, both contributors preferred to aid the side of darkness. And in the world of Fine Art Superheroes, there must also be Fine Art Super-villains too, right?

Week Fifteen Super Powered Beings.

Micah – From Mauricio Lasansky’s “The Hydra Drawings”

Shock – Galactus Devouring his World

Thank you for contributing.

The theme selected for week 16 will be Hell.

This week we are going to hell, and prolly be making a Hell of a lot of jokes about it too. Whether it is a physical subterranean place, a state of mind, a plane of existence or just a hyperbolic adjective, we deserve to be tormented in a lake of fire.

Please submit a drawing or painting, using traditional or digital media of a work of art to be damned to Hell.

All art work is due on Thursday 5.24.12. Submissions will be published the following Friday 5.25.12.

See you in Hell

Week Fourteen of Operation Graphite – Theme: Fictional Mugshot.

I’m quite surprised that we didn’t get an assortment of Gotham City Police Dept. photos this week. A small turn out again, but some very random ideas based on this theme.

Week Fourteen criminals.

Drafturgy – Jin Saotome

shawnbrookwilliams – Nameless Thug

Shock – The Duke Boys

Thank you for contributing to the decline of society.

The theme selected for week 15 will be Fine Art Superhero

For this week, the objective is to either take a known work of fine art, or to use the style and trademarks of a famous artist, to depict a superhero. Our very own b!@ne employed this same idea way back in Week 3 for Batman.

Total Photoshoping is frowned upon, the image above is merely an example of the theme, not of the final work. No one is expecting an oil Rembrandt painting of Hellboy to be done in a week. However, you must convey the idea of a famous work of art, or a famous artist’s trademarks in your superhero image.

Please submit a drawing or painting, using traditional or digital media of Fine Art Superhero.

All art work is due on Thursday 5.17.12. Submissions will (hopefully) be published the following Friday 5.18.12. Be advised that the post might not get up first thing Friday as usual. I will be out on a recon patrol and out of communications range for a time. I will report in once a secure SATLINK can be established. So expect a delayed post.

Good artists copy, great artist steal… exceptional artists are able to paint the future when on drugs.

Week Thirteen of Operation Graphite – Theme: Robots

All systems are functioning within normal parameters, and we have a very diverse selection of mechanical beings to display today.

Week Thirteen contributing robotic autonomous bipeds:

drafturgy – X-51 Salvage

kalebschad – Kitty Killer 3.0

Micah – Fish

Shawn – Robot

Shock – Eddzig Hillga-Tron Expedition Bot

Sweatywest – Trumbo Task Unit Mark6 (decommissioned)

Domo arigato Mr. Roboto.

The theme selected for week Fourteen will be Fictional Mugshot.

This week we’ll visit the criminal past of some of our favorite fictional characters. Was it from a rebellious streak in their youth, do they lead wild lives, or are they well known for breaking the law and finally got caught? Pick a character, any fictional character, and show them after they got arrested.

Please submit a drawing or painting, using traditional or digital media of a mugshot of a fictional Character.

All art work is due on Thursday 5.10.12. Submissions will be published the following Friday 5.11.12.
