Week sixty one of Operation Graphite – theme: It belongs in a Museum.

I constantly day dream about everyday items we use, and what people in the future might think of them, if they were to dig them up five thousand years from now. How on the mark will they be? For all the speculation about ancient sites and artifacts that we uncover, how close are we? Was this figure a religious relic, was it a child toy, or was it a description of something they saw? If civilization were to end, and five thousand years from now, maybe a glass case in some young man’s home will be excavated. One might find rows and rows small human figures, made out of synthetic, high mass polymers. Some of these might have capes, some do not, and most have elaborate colorings or symbols. Will someone discover these, and believe that these figures are depictions of gods? Would they be wrong?

Week sixty of Operation Graphite – theme: Avengers part 2.

Alright Avengers, lets take a look at the new recruits. The next fight might be a tough one. After all, I don’t think we’ll be up against another army, who’ll mysteriously all die once the their Mother Ship gets destroyed. I thought they were aliens too, not robots. What the hell was that, the Phantom Menace!?! We are going to be up against Thanos next… wait, not Thanos? He was just a tease. Well fear not, there will be shawarma and quippy dialogue for all.

Shawarma for all…

The theme selected for week sixty one of Operation Graphite  will be: It belongs in a Museum.

It’s not all about fortune and glory, sometimes it’s about preserving the past, and sometimes its about the balance between good over evil. Imagine you’re illustrating an artifact. Perhaps you’ve been making sketches in a moleskin notebook, on your travels back though the Amazon after finding the Lost City of Z. Maybe you’re creating a diary, culminating research for your future expedition to Shamballa. Or what if you’ve returned from Bjarmaland, but not after nearly losing your life to power hungry fascists looking for an artifact they believe will give them unlimited power. You’ve made it back safe and sound, there’s a chance to study this mysteiorus object you almost lost your life obtaining. Before Marcus Brodie adds it to the museum’s permanent collection, and the public gets to see it, you get a chance to appreciate and illustrate this ancient relic.

Please submit a drawing or painting, using traditional or digital media that fits the theme, It belongs in a museum. Draw a relic that a Tomb Raider would bring back. Perhaps it is a simple artifact, ore maybe it’s a huge ornate relic that you would need a tank to drag home.

All art work is due on Thursday 4.25.13. Submissions will be published the following Friday 4.25.13

There will be no Operation Graphite for the week of April 19th! I will be digging in the black Sand looking for the Tiki Idol of Haumea.

Happy Digging.

Week fifty nine of Operation Graphite – theme: Victory.

I can’t remember the last time I had a victory. Probably in a board game, or successfully throwing a pice of trash in a distant garbage bin on the first attempt, that was the last win I had. Not being much of a brawler, I’ve never been in a real fight. Any time fists or feet few, they were bookended by Hajime and Yame. The idea of Victory as crushing your enemies and seeing them driven before you, is just an anecdote. Victory means competition, and I’ve always seen competitive people as jerks. But there is always that desire to prevail, to over come and stand above the others. Almost all of us still want to win, but everyone has a different degree that they are able to sink in pursuit of that Victory; but that is just looser talk.

The theme selected for week sixty of Operation Graphite will be: The Avengers part 2.

Marvel Phase 2 begins this May with Iron Man 3. Since the first Avengers made a Billion or so, part two is defiantly in the works. And a new Avengers movie means new Avengers team members. This week for Operation Graphite, we will revisit the Marvel Universe. The mission is to take one of the many other Avengers who have not been reimagined for the silver screen, and design the look and costume for that character. Some concept work is already online for Falcon, and the test footage for Ant-man has been leaked. Which other members would you like to see in Avengers Part 2?

Please submit a drawing or painting, using traditional or digital media of your Avenger.

All art work is due on Thursday 4.11.13. Submissions will be published the following Friday 4.12.13
