Week one-fifty-eight of Operation Graphite – theme: A-Force.

Soon there will be an all female Ghostbusters, for a while there was a TV Show about the superhero girls in Gotham City, and now there is going to be an all women Avengers team. I’m kind of surprised it hadn’t happened sooner. Actually, an all female X-men (XX-Force?) is something could have seen even earlier. The Claremont years had the X-men roster almost even in the male to female ratio. Few other comics had so many female characters for a superhero comic. So not surpassingly, a big chunk of A-Force will be mutants, but it looks like quite a few other heroines will be joining this team.

Contributing Avengers:

kalebschad – She Hulk

Shock – (Mohawk) Storm, Wasp, She Hulk and Medusa.

The theme selected for week one-fifty-eight of Operation Graphite will be: A-Force.

By now you may have seen the new trailer for, Age of Ultron. Marvel and the Avengers doing quite well with their Cinematic Universe. In the print world, Marvel is announcing another addition to the Avengers library, the all female, A-Force. Not to be confused with X-Force, though some of its members might be in there. Also, not to be confused with A-Team, unless Storm decides to go back to her rad 80’s mohawk. Not only will the characters be all women, but the writers of the series are all women thus far as well. The team ups were made to contrast different powers and personalities, cause apparently one rule in the Avengers is they always be fighting with each other as much as they fight the enemy.

Please submit any drawing or painting, using traditional or digital media, that fits the theme: A-Force

Week sixty eight of Operation Graphite – theme: Realistic Heroine.

Shock - Desert Rat

Realistic – how do we define this when we’re making stylized images? Or, can they not be stylized at all? Is photo realism something that such a heavy word demands? If the eyes are too big or the proportions not right, do we miss the mark? A Realistic Heroine, certainly the antithesis of so many dumb comics from the 90’s, must have depth, strength, and believability. In the end, maybe the look isn’t always the key determination, as realism goes deeper than the visage. But don’t let that be an excuse for ridicules poses and outfits.

027-Aliens - O Resgate

Sometimes there’s a mission that no man can accomplish. That’s when she steps up, kindly says, “stand aside boys,” and gets shit done. She won’t have the proportions of a barbie doll, or any plastic parts. A realistic heroine, not one of those voluptuous contortionists on a comic book page; a real woman, not just a thirteen year old boy’s fantasy.

Please submit any drawing or painting, using traditional or digital media, of a Realistic Heroine.

All art work is due on Thursday 6.13.13. Submissions will be published the following Friday 6.14.13.
