The theme selected for week two-twenty-nine of Operation Graphite will be: Heraldry.

Family Crests, Coats of Arms, and all the other iconography associated with European heraldry has always fascinated me. Both the serious task of crafting an appropriate coat of arms, and also parodies of such heraldic images are great. I have several SCA friends who have crafted their own arms, adhering to very strict guidelines and diligently researching existing historical arms. This theme will allow much more freedom. You can complete the entire coat of arms with motto, helmet, crest and supporters, or just the shield, which in heraldry is called the escutcheon. If you want to mix it up, you can even delve into Japanese mon, which is another form of family symbol akin to heraldry.

Please submit any drawing or painting, using traditional or digital media, that fits the theme: Heraldry.

All art work is due 9 P.M. PST on Friday, 7.29.16. Submissions will be published the weekend of 7.30.16
