The theme selected for week one-nintey-six of Operation Graphite will be: Edo Period.

The Edo Period was boring… at least it was for some people. After years of bloody war, peace broke out – which is usually a good thing. However, if your livelihood has been waging war, as was also your father’s and your grandfather’s, there may be a bit of an existential crisis when one finds themselves out of a job. It was a time of artistic and economic development, but it was also a time of isolationism and harsh social order. In cinema it was the age of the wandering samurai, and that is often what people most think of, even though it was much more.

Please submit any drawing or painting, using traditional or digital media, that fits the theme: Edo Period.

All art work is due 9 P.M. PST on Friday, 12.4.15. Submissions will be published the weekend of 12.5.15
