Week one-eighty-nine of Operation Graphite – theme: 80’s Horror.

Horror in the 1980’s was often driven by iconic, villainous characters. Some of these characters were so charismatic, they were often viewed with love and admirations by fans of the genre, despite the fact that these characters were often child molesters and murderous psychopaths. Another factor was the evolution of the craft of special effects. Foam latex, corn syrup and KY jelly were able to achieve things that todays best CG still have trouble with. Horror has always been the low budget genre, and filmmakers have long tried to find the best way to scare the crap out of people as cheap as possible. The 80’s created some of the most iconic low budget characters who later went on to become big box office draws.
